Name: Lessons from the Great Conservationists of the Past -August 21 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm - Free
Date: August 21, 2018
Time: 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM EDT
Event Description:
Schoodic Institute invites the public to a free public lecture by Dr. Larry A. Nielsen, Professor Emeritus, North Carolina State University, on August 21, 2018. These are stressful times for conservationists, in Maine and elsewhere. Is Katahdin Wood and Waters National Monument in jeopardy, like those in the West? Are Maine’s beautiful shorelines threatened by oil exploration? Is renewable energy an endangered species? What does the government’s banishment of climate change mean? Fear not! Our world is better today than in the past, and it will be even better in the future—if we stand up for it. This talk will tell the story of inspirational conservationists of the past—people like Rachel Carson—who loved Maine—Chico Mendes and Wangari Maathai. If we act with passion and persistence like theirs, we can achieve a sustainable and beautiful world! Larry Nielsen is author of Nature’s Allies: Eight Conservationists Who Changed Our World. No registration is required for this program. Please follow signs on the Institute campus to Moore Auditorium. Free and open to the public.
